A Legacy of Making: 26 Contemporary Artists Inspired by Their Italian Heritage, Connecticut College

Through October 19, 2024

A Legacy of Making is the title given to a series of exhibitions featuring the work of artists who are inspired by their Italian or Italian American culture. Joanne Mattera selected these artists from her book, Italianità: Contemporary Art Inspired by the Italian Immigrant Experience.
Joanne Mattera co-curated the first exhibition in Manhattan with Joseph Sciorra, and she has been independently curating subsequent iterations, with different artists and different work, in Connecticut and Massachusetts. A Legacy of Making: 26 Contemporary Artists Inspired by Their Italian Heritage in the Cummings Art Center at Connecticut College, New London. The exhibition is a greatly expanded iteration of the Manhattan show. Five additional artists are included, and both larger work and a greater number of pieces, along with a site-specific installation, are installed on two levels. The exhibition is up through October 19.
